Spring Hill Survives Hurricane Irene and Launches New Programs
April 17, 2012

As spring arrives, we find ourselves with a lot of work ahead to repair the damages we sustained during Hurricane Irene. If you didn’t read about our experiences during the flooding, don’t miss Dorothy’s Report.

We lost so much – our run-in shelter, our barn floor, hay, our one ton truck (which we sorely miss), building materials, computer equipment, and much more. Yet, we consider ourselves lucky because our animals (17 horses, 2 turkeys, 2 pigs, a mini-cow and a goat) survived unharmed. We quickly made the repairs necessary to get through the winter, and we received donations of replacement hay and horse blankets (thank you to those donors!)

Now our real work begins. We are launching a number of initiatives to get us “Back on Our Hooves”. We’re excited about our new membership program, upcoming events, and working at the barn with our volunteers. We are looking with renewed vigor and commitment because for us, changing the lives of abandoned, neglected, and unwanted animals makes it all worthwhile.

So please join us in any way you can – become a member, volunteer, donate, check out our wish list, or meet us at one of our events. Surviving a flood is only part of our story; and we have so much to
share!

Spring Hill takes in Sapphire
March 16, 2012

Last weekend, Spring Hill Horse Rescue was contacted by the Rutland County Sheriff's Department to respond to a complaint about a very thin mare who was lame. By Monday morning, a team was assembled that included Spring Hill, a veterinarian, and representatives of the Agency of Agriculture and the Rutland County Sheriff's Department. The report turned out to be accurate - we found Sapphire, a beautiful 10 year old paint/thoroughbred mare who was very thin and who was not receiving the veterinary attention she needed for an infected hoof. Spring Hill decided to step in and do what was best for Sapphire - we've taken her into our care to nurse her back to health.
